The Elegance of Sisterhood

Desteni D.

Class of 2027
For my adjective photography finals this year, I focused on the theme of the adjective elegant. I chose to capture this adjective through both subject and setting. The three photos displayed are three out of ten final photographs. The models featured are: Haprer H 28′, Sylvie H 29′, Lilly D 29′, Gabriella G’ 29′, and Elle G 29′. All three photos were taken on campus, to present a familiar space through a new lens. When editing these photos, I realized that when walking past the same buildings and trees daily, we don’t notice how the light changes the mood or how certain angles can transform an ordinary place into something expressive and unexpected. I took advantage of the new bloom around campus, using natural lighting and intentional posing to communicate my adjective subtly but clearly. Throughout this project, I have also come to see how monochrome can enhance the intricate, minute, but crucial details in a photograph. Throughout the enhancement of my photography this year, I have developed a deeper appreciation for how spaces and subjects interact. This experience reminded me that creativity doesn’t always require a new location; sometimes, it’s about seeing the usual through a different lens.
